Sponda: Sustainability records are meant to be broken

Sustainability is an increasingly important value for us, our customers and other
stakeholders. We want to create sustainable and vibrant urban spaces and are always
working towards new targets. During 2025, we not only reached, but again exceeded our
sustainability goals. Here are some of those highlights in more detail.

For the third consecutive year we secured the number one position in our European peer
group
and shared the number one spot globally as a Global Sector Leader in the annual
GRESB (Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark) assessment.

How about these impressive sustainability figures:

  • We exceeded our Energy Efficiency Programme targets, cutting energy consumption by over 17% (versus the 2016-2018 baseline)
  • The proportion of buildings with energy performance ratings A or B rose to 44%, strengthening EU taxonomy alignment
  • From the beginning of 2025, all our properties have used emission-free energy: wind power, renewable district heating and emission-free district cooling. This resulted in reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 19,000 tonnes from 2022
  • Environmental certification coverage and scoring increased and now span over 92% of the entire portfolio
  • To reduce our properties’ energy consumption, our goal is to raise 60% of our portfolio to A or B energy classes by the end of 2026. An even more ambitious target of 70% is being targeted for our premium properties, most of which are located in Helsinki city centre

Already back in 2022, we launched a Community Engagement Programme, encouraging our
employees to use 1–2 working days each year for volunteer work. It has been a smashing
success, with over 100 members of our staff eagerly signing up to pick up trash from a
Helsinki beach, volunteer in food distribution for those in need and do gardening work for
charity. Did you know that the initiative for this community engagement originally came from
our CEO?

Our vision is to be a true sustainability leader in our sector. With this goal in mind, we set
about defining our new sustainability programme for 2026-2028. It centres around four
themes that are based on our strategy and have been defined together with our
stakeholders. These themes — environment, society, personnel and governance — form the
focus areas of our sustainability work. In short, we believe that our properties make a
difference, our spaces bring us together, our people make it happen and that we are building
on a progressive foundation.
