The Office

The Student Union’s office can be found on Casa Academica’s second floor. The student union’s two employees and the board work there. The Student union’s employees are Secretary General Mathilda Lindblom and Axel Andersson, the Financial and Administrative Secretary. In addition to SHS staff, you can also find the Executive Board in the office.

The Executive Board

This years board consists of a mix of Student Union actives with varying backgrounds. We have a lot of experience from the student union and we wish to make this year great for you.

The Student council

The Student Council is the highest decision making body in the Student Union and consists of 18 regular members and 18 substitutes who are elected by secret, proportional elections every Autumn. The Student Council has a presidium which consists of the president, vice president and second vice president. The Student Council has members both from Helsinki and Vaasa campuses: the amount of members depends on the amount of votes.

The Student Council’s most important duties include deciding the budget for the Student Union, the Student Union fee, the business plan, and making the other big, strategic decisions for the Student Union. Furthermore the Student Council elects the President of the Executive Board and approves the rest of the board members. The Student Council oversees the board’s work and also elects the Presidents of all the SHS Committees. The Student Council also handles any motions that a minimum of 10 Student Union members have signed.

The Students Council meets roughly once a month throughout the school year. The meetings are open for all members of the Student Union, which means that everyone is welcome to attend the meetings. The meetings are held on both campuses (Helsinki and Vaasa) and sometimes digitally, or exceptionally only digitally. The Student Council has a tradition that all members in Vaasa visit Helsinki for education days and the inaugural meeting, and it also is a tradition that the members from Helsinki travel to Vaasa for a meeting around the Pampas Nationaldag event. You can always find the time and place(s) for the meetings at least 10 days ahead of the meeting at shs.fi.

As a Student Union member, you can best influence the Student Councils work and decisions by candidating at the Student Council Elections. You can also influence the work in the following ways:

● Vote at the Student Council Elections
● Contact the Student Council member you voted for
● Contact the Presidium of the Student Council
● Send a motion signed by at least 10 Student Union members to the Student Council Collect – the Council will discuss the motion in the next meeting

In case you have any questions, opinions or feedback – don’t hesitate to contact the president or anyone else from the presidium. The Presidium encourages all Student Union members to actively check the Council’s decisions out (can be found under Minutes and Regulations) since many of them affect SHS members. Elders’ Council

The Elders’ Council is an advisory body which is entitled to report and submit proposals to the Executive Board and the Student Council.

The Elders’ Council consists of its President and three to five members, who are experienced student union actives that have most likely held a number of positions of trust at SHS.

The Elders’ Council functions as the student union’s senior advisors, and have the role of advising and supporting the student union’s current persons in charge. In addition to fostering continuity within the student union’s operations and governance, the Elders’ Council keeps an eye on the implementation of SHS’ vision, mission and strategy.
