Department Council for Financial Economics and Economics

A deputy representative for Economics Please note that you must be majoring in Economics to apply for the Department Council.

Information about the Department Councils (IR)

To organize research and education, Hanken has four departments, operating on both study campuses. A department is led by a head and a department council, with the head serving as the chair of the department council. Department councils, also known as IR, can be seen somewhat like a general meeting for the department.

The Department Councils are responsible for:

– Developing, following up on results, and evaluating the department’s activities

– Proposing the teaching plan

– Proposing the department’s budget

– Proposing the department’s staffing plan and making recommendations regarding the recruitment of teaching and research staff included in it

– Providing statements on matters related to education and research upon request

– Ensuring that Hanken’s quality assurance processes are followed, handling systematic student feedback, and monitoring how students achieve program learning outcomes, and based on the follow-ups, suggesting or implementing necessary changes.

A department council has nine members in addition to the head. Three members should represent professors, three should represent other teachers and researchers, and three should represent the students at the department. Substitutes are appointed for each group. All subjects taught at the department should be represented on the department council.

As a student representative, you have the opportunity to directly influence your education. Additionally, you will gain experience in meeting techniques and advocacy, the chance to expand your network within Hanken, and a position of trust to add to your CV.

In exchange, you are expected to attend one to two meetings per month, inform the other student representatives about current issues, and be available to students who have questions or concerns about their education. You will receive a stipend of €25 per meeting!

The assignment begins immediately after the application period ends and the candidate is approved. The assignment ends on 31.12.2024, although you do not need to serve the entire term. Send a freely written application to studier@shs.fi by Thursday, 8.10.2024 at 23:59. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
