Department Councils
To organise research and education, Hanken has four departments operating at both campuses. A department is led by a Head of Department and a Department Council, and the Head serves as Chair of the Council. The Department Councils, also known as DCs, can be seen as somewhat equivalent to a general meeting of shareholders for the department.

The duties of the Department Councils are to:
– develop, monitor results, and evaluate the department’s activities
– make proposals for the curriculum
– make proposals for the department’s budget
make proposals for the department’s staffing plan and provide recommendations regarding the recruitment of teaching and research staff included in it
– issue statements on matters concerning education and research upon request
ensure that Hanken’s quality assurance processes are followed, review systematic student feedback, and monitor how students achieve the programmes’ intended learning outcomes, and based on this follow-up propose or implement necessary changes

A Department Council has nine members in addition to the Head of Department. Three members represent the professors, three represent other teachers and researchers, and three represent the students of the department. Deputies are appointed for the members by group.

All subjects within the department must be represented on the Department Council.
