Event
Havis Amanda 2021
After a ruff spring, the sun has finally started to show and its time for all students to put on the overalls, open the bottle of sparkling wine and give Havis Amanda her student cap. Normally we would soon be gathering around Kauppatori and celebrate Vappu together, we will celebrate together, but this year it will happen virtually. Because we cannot let Havis Amanda go without her cap.
The crowning of Havis Amanda, Helsinki’s own mermaid at Kauppatori, is an old student tradition. Before it became official, the crowning took place at midnight as early as the year 1909. In 1951, the first official permission to place a student cap on Havis Amanda was given, and now it’s a tradition for the whole family every Vappu at 6 PM.
The student unions in metropolitan Helsinki take turns in the crowning of Havis Amanda and this year SHS, the Student Union of Hanken School of Economics, has the honor to continue
the tradition. SHS now welcomes everyone to take part in the festivities and join the biggest annual student festivity Helsinki has to offer!
On April 30th the virtual crowning with the traditional spring cleaning of Havis Amanda takes place. After that the cappers are lifted up and Havis Amanda is crowned at 6 PM sharp, which means that all students are allowed to place their own student caps on their heads.
Gather around your computers and come and take part of the festivities and celebrate Vappu in the best possible way!
More info about all the events and time table will follow!
SHS encourage everyone to celebrate Vappu in a safe and responsible way! Remember to follow the restrictions and guidelines issued by authorities.
