Sampo Plc is looking for a skilled sustainability reporting expert and a developer of various sustainability-related processes for the role of (Senior) Sustainability Specialist to join their four-person sustainability team.
As a (Senior) Sustainability Specialist, you will bring broad expertise across various areas of sustainability, with a particular focus on the Governance aspect of ESG. Your main responsibility is to ensure that Sampo’s sustainability practices, such as reporting, processes, and documentation, comply with regulations and standards and are of high quality.
In practice, your work will include project-based tasks such as assessing the current state of sustainability work, reporting, and processes, followed by development efforts. You will also keep track of sustainability legislation and standards and ensure their implementation. You will actively liaise with various stakeholders within the group, including financial reporting, investor relations, legal affairs, and Sampo’s subsidiaries. Additionally, your role involves preparing reports and presentations for senior management and the board. As part of the sustainability team, you will also handle general sustainability-related tasks for a publicly listed company. Based on your experience, you may be hired as a Senior, where more extensive experience in similar sustainability work is expected.
You will work on themes such as:
- Regulatory (e.g., CSRD, EU taxonomy) and other voluntary sustainability reporting (e.g., GRI)
- Assurance of sustainability reporting
- Content creation for other annual and quarterly reports from a sustainability perspective
- Providing sustainability expertise and materials for various internal and external needs (e.g., PPT presentations)
- Developing the sustainability section and creating content for the sampo.com website
- Code of Conduct and other necessary internal sustainability guidelines
- Documentation and process descriptions related to sustainability reporting and practices
As a (Senior) Sustainability Specialist, you will contribute expertise in the above areas, along with a willingness to learn and tackle various tasks with an open mind. Self-management, attention to detail, and project management skills are essential for the role.
The ideal candidate should have:
- A relevant higher education degree and at least a few years of experience in similar sustainability-related roles, either in an internal position or as a consultant
- Knowledge of legislation governing sustainability reporting (e.g., CSRD, CSDDD) and applicable frameworks (e.g., GRI)
- The ability to lead projects and engage different stakeholders in sustainability work
- Good general IT skills, such as experience with the Wdesk reporting system or a similar system, and the ability to produce high-quality reporting and presentation materials both in content and appearance
- Fluency in both written and spoken Finnish and English
Additionally, it is considered an advantage to have:
- Knowledge of the insurance or financial industry
- Expertise in the sustainability requirements and reporting for publicly listed companies

Practical details:
This is a permanent, full-time position, where you will be directly employed by our client Sampo Plc. The preferred start date is as soon as possible in the fall of 2024. Sampo’s headquarters are located in Helsinki city center, where the sustainability team works on-site an average of three days a week.
