Apply for the Student Union badges and scholarships
2022 has without a doubt been a difficult year for all of us. But with the holiday season warming us up amidst the dark winter times, it is time to think about all the good things we have accomplished, to become stronger together for the coming year by opening the application period for the Student Union badges and scholarships!
Every year the Student Union along with its fellow support associations hands out a variety of badges and stipends to honor members for their hard work and dedication to constantly improve SHS!
As a member of SHS you can nominate a fellow student that you believe is worth the award! For some grants you can nominate a fellow student or apply yourself!
These prestigious awards will be handed out at the Student Union’s Annual Ball, February 24th 2023!
Below you will find a descriptive list on all the badges and stipends that you can apply for yourself or nominate a fellow student to.
Deadline for applications and motivated letters to all badges and grants is January 8th 2023 and should be sent to the following email: ansokan@shs.fi.
Ceremonial Awards
Nominations for the Ceremonial Awards and the Student Unions banner should be sent in by at least five Student Union members, the Executive Board, the Elders Council or a Student Council member.
Stora kårnålen in silver- is awarded to a Student Union member whom by his or her activity for SHS has earned its recognition.
Lilla förtjänstmärket– is awarded to a Student Union member whom by his or her activity for SHS has earned its special recognition.
Kamratskapsmärket– is awarded to a regular Student Union member who specially deserves the recognition of a ”good friend” and who has promoted a good Hanken-spirit. Kamratskapsmärket requires a nomination from one Student Union member.
Intressebevakningsmärket i guld– is awarded to a Student Union member who has through student advocacy and educational affairs represented SHS and its interests in the University Council, Hanken’s Executive Board, the Academic Council or similar organs. This badge requires a nomination from the current Educational Affairs member in the Executive Board or another Student Union member.
Intressebevakningsmärket i silver– is awarded to a Student Union member who has through student advocacy and educational affairs represented SHS and its interests in Hanken’s institutional Councils or similar organs. This badge requires a nomination from the current Educational Affairs member in the Executive Board or another Student Union member
Scholarships
The Student Union ‘Outstanding Member’ Scholarship (Kåryrarstipeniet), (2000 euro)
This scholarship is awarded yearly to a student who either is finishing their studies at Hanken or have recently graduated. The merits of this scholarship includes;
- either a diverse background of Student Union activity during their time of study
- or a student who has lead or been in a leading role of a large-scale project explicit to the Student Union, along with long term commitment within the Student Union.
This award can be applied for individually or by being nominated for by fellow student(s). The Scholarship Committee can also independently propose a candidate.
Ben Schnitt Scholarship, (2000 euro)
The Ben Schnitts scholarship, or ‘the true Hanken student, Den sanna hankeiten’ is awarded yearly to one student. The merits for the award are one or more of the following
- supportive and helpful towards fellow Student Union friends
- has worked for a common cause
- showed good comradeship and loyalty to the Student Union, worked on behalf of the Student Union. SHS stakeholder associations or federation.
This award can be applied for individually or by being nominated for by fellow student(s). The Scholarship Committee can also independently propose a candidate. The scholarship sum is 2000€. The recipient is also awarded a special scholarship letter by the SHSFU- board.
The Student Union Activity Scholarships (range between 500-1100 euro)
Are awarded by the Student Union’s support associations (Understödsföreningen) to students who have held a more demanding position of trust in the Student Union. Positions in the Student Union which qualify for the scholarship are the following:
- member of the Executive Board
- President of the Student Council
- President of Casa Nostra
- Treasurer of Casa Nostra
- President for the Annual Ball Committee
- President of the Information Committee
- Exchange Committee President
- Freshman Committee President
- Masters’ Committee President
- IHD President
- President of the Program Committee
- Sports Committee President
- President of the Central Election Committee
- President of SSHV
The applications are ranked by Student Union activity and the scholarships can be applied by persons who’ve had one of the positions during 2022 and whose mandate is ending this year (2022).
The Student Union Grant, (250 euro)– can be applied by and awarded to a student who has greatly has contributed to the Student Union or the Student Association in Vasa. The Student Union scholarship is awarded to a student who has performed at least 120 credits in his or her own study program. Only Student Union merits are considered in awarding the Student Union scholarship. The application should include a study transcript and a transcript of Student Union merits.
Apply for the Niord grant
NIORD is seeking applicants for a two 250 euro stipend for students at Hanken in Helsinki.
If you are active in promoting and bettering student life through SHS, or other Hanken- related activities, you are eligible to apply. Even occasionally posed projects can be considered.
You can apply for the grant for yourself, or on behalf of someone else. Send your freely formed application to ansokan@shs.fi by January 8th, 2023. The applications will be forwarded to NIORDs Grant Commission who elect the recipients of the grant.
The grant is presented at the Student Union Annual Ball that is set to take place February 24, 2023.
Apply for the Solrosen grant
Are you studying a foreign language? Are you interested in learning about new cultures and traditions?
The Solrosen grant is given to a student at Hanken who is interested in other languages and cultures, preferably predominantly Spanish-speaking cultures. Send a motivated and freely formed application to ansokan@shs.fi by January 8th, 2023. The grant is presented at the Student Union Annual Ball that is set to take place February 24, 2023.
All applications and motivation letters for SHS badges and scholarships 2023 should be sent to ansokan@shs.fi by 8.1.2023 at the latest.
