About the Department Councils (IR)
To organize research and education, Hanken has four departments operating at both study locations. Each department is led by a head of department and a department council, with the head serving as the council’s chairperson. The department councils, also known as IR, function similarly to a general meeting for the department.
The department councils are responsible for:
- Developing, monitoring, and evaluating the department’s activities
- Proposing the curriculum
- Proposing the department’s budget
- Proposing the department’s personnel plan and providing recommendations for recruiting teaching and research staff
- Providing statements on education and research matters upon request
- Ensuring Hanken’s quality assurance processes are followed, handling systematic student feedback, and tracking students’ achievement of program learning objectives, making necessary adjustments when needed
A department council consists of nine members plus the head of the department. Three members represent professors, three represent other teachers and researchers, and three represent students of the department. Each member group also has appointed deputies, ensuring all subjects within the department are represented.
Why Apply?
As a student representative, you have the opportunity to influence your education directly. You’ll also gain experience in meeting procedures and advocacy, expand your network within Hanken, and earn a valuable leadership role for your CV.
In return, you’re expected to:
