Internship at SEB: Nikko´s experience from the Helsinki Internship Programme

Have you ever wondered what it is like to work in a global financial services group? There is a wealth of opportunities at SEB. Our teams include all kinds of people and there is one thing we have in common: we want to be a positive force in society. We empower people to achieve their goals. Our heritage of entrepreneurship makes us cherish ambition – both in individuals and in businesses.

One opportunity for that is our Helsinki Internship Programme. During the 4,5-month programme interns will get a unique opportunity to learn about banking and gain a thorough understanding of SEB’s business in Finland and abroad. Interns will work in a defined position alongside talented professionals as a part of their home team within our Large Corporates & Financial Institutions division. They will learn about a variety of roles at SEB and build their own network by visiting other departments and teams during the internship.

In this blog our current Helsinki intern Nikko Ruokangas describes his experience at SEB.

I started my internship at SEB for a month ago. SEB  made me an impact already before starting the internship. We were able to familiarize ourselves with the recruiting teams during the interview process. On assessment day we were allowed to interview the recruiting teams before they interviewed us, enabling us to understand better the key aspects the teams were looking  for and making at least me feel quite relaxed already before the interviews. The assessment day included lunch with the recruiting teams as well. The day gave me a picture that the company really wants to invest in the internship.

I work on Financial Institutions Coverage, a team which focuses on advising banks, asset management firms, pension funds and insurance companies on their business. As the team focuses on the specific industry, tasks vary a lot covering all kinds of projects the bank has with the clients. Hence, I have been able to better understand the whole picture of bank’s relationship with clients, enabling me to find more comprehensive solutions in the future. I have naturally learned a lot about financial institutions and how to analyze their business. The current pandemic has changed the nature of the daily work, but it has been very fascinating to see all the implemented creative alternative solutions which help to keep the business moving. We have almost daily shared our experiences with other interns and it has been very interesting to hear about their daily work as well.

In addition to talking with other interns, I have liked a lot the possibility to visit other teams we are interested in at SEB. The expectations of the culture I had before the internship have been fulfilled. It is very easy to talk or have a lunch with anyone, making me feel included.

I have enjoyed my time here at SEB and recommend applying for the internship!

Interested? We are now looking interns to join our Financial Institutions Coverage, Financial Strategy, Equity Research and Markets FICC sales teams. Check out our open positions in www.seb.fi/rekrytointi and apply before October 4.
